Fearless of ever finding open land~

INTO MY OWN (1913)*Robert Frost
One of my wishes is that those dark trees,
So old and firm they scarcely show the breeze,
Were not, as 'twere, the merest mask of gloom,
But stretched away unto the edge of doom.
*
I should not be witheld but that some day
Into their vastness I should steal away,
Fearless of ever finding open land,
Or highway where the slow wheel pours the sand.
*
I do not see why I should e'er turn back,
Or those should not set for upon my track
To overtake me, who should miss me here
And long to know if still I held them dear.*
They would not find me
changed from him they knew-
Only more sure of all I thought was true.*

  1. Oh, I love Robert Frost! Good poem, my favorite of his is "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"
"My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake."
    I LOVE that one! :-)
The last horse I had Copper, would pull a sleigh. A neighbor and I went sleigh riding one cold winter night; full moon, ice on trees, back an old little used road, it was beautiful!!!

  4. Beautiful poems, each and every one - including Jane Augenstein's favorite. Very nice and appropriate for your post today.
Thanks for your comments on my blog yesterday. Funny you should mention Lippizans where Ladde is concerned. A lot of people on the trails ask us if he is Lippizan, he does tend to arch his neck and become a bit of a show off when he has an audience! I've always thought he would do nicely at dressage even though his neck no longer appears long and willowy. So...what day were you at the expo? We were there on Saturday and missed the Extreme Mustang Makeover!! That is the one thing I was going to see - damn!! How much did the horses sell for? Do you remember the bay gelding that was trained by the deaf trainer from Estacada? I forget her name.
    Have a good weekend!!
Love that first photo of yours - beautiful.

Lorie! I was at EXPO on Friday and watched them all ride the courses. I know that gal from Estacada..she rides near my old Two's A team stable! Erin. She is fantastic.
One of the gals bought her STEVE HOLT! she trained for ,I think, $800

  6. Robert Frost truely gets better the more times you read his poetry. "Deep sweetness", yes, and darkness and humanity - I think that's why his poetry is so well loved, everyone can take something away from it.

  7. I love the poetry and the beautiful photos to go with them! I had to read them all several times, beautiful. I don't think I appreciated Robert Frost so much in high school when I HAD to study poetry, but I sure do now!
